Holland Davis
Leading Worship With The AC-60
by Jim Bybee — May 2007
Singer, songwriter, and guitarist Holland Davis is the Worship Leader and Assistant Pastor at Ocean Hills Church in San Juan Capistrano, CA. Previously, as the Director of A&R and Marketing at Maranatha! Music, he started the Worship Underground label that introduced artists such as David Crowder, Pete Shambrook, Curt Coffield, and others. As a composer, his song, Let It Rise, has become a worship music standard that’s sung in churches all over the world.
While leading worship, Holland often accompanies himself on acoustic guitar, and his stage amplifier of choice is the Roland AC-60 Acoustic Chorus. As he recently told Worship Connection, “To me, it's the perfect acoustic guitar amp.” Holland especially likes the way it supports his acoustic sound when the stage is filled with more “electrified” instruments: “So often, as [an acoustic] guitar player, I'm at the mercy of all the band members that have their own amps. With my AC-60, I can monitor my own signal onstage and also send it to the house PA via the stereo line out at the back of the amp. It also has a built-in chorus and delay/reverb that adds a little flavor.”
When he performs solo, Holland’s a big fan of the AC-60’s portability and flexibility: “On a number of occasions, it's doubled as my entire PA system, as it has a second channel that you can plug a mic into for vocals.” In this application, he appreciates the AC-60’s ability to automatically detect and eliminate feedback: “One of the most helpful features has been the Anti-Feedback control that notches out really troubling frequencies.”
No matter what musical situation he’s performing in, Holland always gets great results with the AC-60: “I've used it in solo and band applications, and it’s performed way beyond my expectations. I love my AC-60.”
