Lincoln Brewster
Performs at the 4th Annual Worship Arts Summit
by Jim Bybee
Lincoln Brewster rocked the house with two standing-room-only performances at the 4th Annual Worship Arts Summit on Sunday, January 21st, 2007, held in Roland’s Showcase Theater at the NAMM show. The Sacramento, CA-based worship leader brought some church to NAMM, leading the morning and early afternoon “services” with rousing musical performances and inspirational stories.
Loud and unabashed, Lincoln captivated the crowd with his melodic songs, stellar guitar skills, and devotional passion. Highlights included the audience-participation rocker “Let the Praises Ring,” and Lincoln’s recounting of his path eschewing the rock star life for one of simple faith and worship. This was followed by a moving performance of the ballad “Surrender.” At the end of each show, a drawing was held, and one lucky audience member went home with a BOSS pedal autographed by Lincoln.
The Brewster band generated their powerful sound with a bevy of Roland and BOSS gear. Lincoln’s guitar signal passed through a few favorite BOSS stomp boxes before hitting a GT-8 Guitar Effects Processor. The GT-8’s output was then fed direct to the house mixing console. Drummer Mike Johns laid down the backbeat on a TD-20S V-Drums kit, while bassist Norm Stockton held the bottom through the D-BASS 115 and 115X. Rounding out the sound was keyboardist John New, playing the VK-88 and Fantom-X8.
Also onstage was an unofficial “fifth member” of the Brewster band, John Broadhead of Roland Systems Group. He wasn’t performing as a musical artist, however; he manned the controls of the Edirol CG-8 Video Synthesizer, creating impressive visual effects and motion graphics on the video screen behind the performers, demonstrating how Edirol video products can be creatively integrated into a worship environment.
